To The Dolls

One day Addison asked for a bed for her dolls. I love to build stuff so I decided to look on www.ana-white.com for some plans.
The kids have bunk beds of their own so I chose the doll bunkbed design. It matches their bed exactly and she will be able to put her doll and horse to sleep.
Here are the plans:

I went to Lowe's and got some furring strips which are 2"x1" I had some 2"x2" wood pieces from and earlier project so I decided to use that for the corners. I had to change the plans up slightly to use the 2"X2" instead.

I used the Kreg Jig (shown below) to bring the wood pieces together. I only drilled one hole in the center but maybe on future projects I will do two on each side. With only having one the wood would twist and it was hard to keep it square.
I sanded all of the boards before I attached them to make it easier. Once it was put together I filled the holes with wood filler. I used to use my finger to apply it in the holes but it would always either be too thick which resulted in tons of sanding to get it flush with the wood or it would have indentation and I would have to keep applying more. I ended up buying a small putty knife and it works like a charm.
Here are the pieces after I drilled the holes.
I then painted it with spray paint. I thought it would be easier getting into all the spaces by using spray paint instead of a paint brush. The only thing was I didn't prime it first. I had to use two cans of spray paint and it still would show through. I bought a spray primer which helped a lot.

Here is a bigger view of me painting the bed. I got the pink spray paint from Michael's using a 40% off coupon. It was about the same price at Lowe's vs Michael's so with using the coupon it made it cheaper at Michael's.
She asked for pink with flowers and that's what she got. I used acrylic paint from Michael's and free handed the flowers on it. I then sprayed it with a spray polyurethane to seal it.
Here is the finished product! So cute if I do say so myself.  I made mattresses, pillow and blankets with some left over fabric from Addison's crib bedding that I made when she was a baby.
Here she is tucking in her doll and horse.

It's A Girl!

So my best friend Jen was having a baby girl and of course I did the baby shower. I teamed up with our other friend Michelle which was good since I had to work three nights before. Jen decided to do the baby's room in grey, yellow and blue and so we thought it would be a good idea to incorporate those colors with the baby shower. I made the cutest invitation that I got from the bridal section at Michaels. Michelle made the tissue paper pom poms to hang and I made the cloth banner with the baby's name on it. Here are some pictures of the cute event.

Here are the invitations I used. I went to Michaels to actually find supplies to make invitations. I found these yellow and grey herringbone printable invitations and thought they were so cute. In a perfect world I would make everything but being a full time working mom I decided that I would buy these. Atleast I got to customize them myself.
Here is the picture of the fabric banner that I made. I made it so she could take it home after the shower and use it in her room. Jen named her Savannah so each flag piece has a letter on it.

I wanted to make it nice for Jen but didn't have a lot of time
(I worked night shift on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, had to sleep Thursday morning and the shower was Thursday night)
I decided to do chocolate fondue with tons of different items to dip. Fruits, pound cake, cookies, pretzels, marshmallows, you name it! It was so easy! Jen is from the south so we decided to do mason jars and grey striped straws with lemonade. Michelle made the cute mason jars and got the straws.
This is the whole set up which I think turned out really nice. Michelle made the tissue pom poms and hanged them on the ceiling with the 3M removable hooks so it wouldn't damage my ceiling
(Good thinkin' Michelle) The shower turned out well and we had a blast!

She's Crafty!

I have always been known for my crafty abilities since I was little. I never really played with barbies the only thing I did was make furniture out of boxes and sewed clothes for them. I really started to get into sewing when I was about 12 years old and have been doing it ever since. I love just being able to see something and trying to figure out how to put it together. I started this blog because everyone would ask what I am working on now.  This way they can see what I have been doing.

Here are a couple of funny stories about my crafting experience.

I would go to the fabric store about 3-4 times a week and the sales associates there got to know me really well. I got to know one particular lady very well named, Vera. Every week she would ask me what I was working on now. I would bring her pictures of my Halloween costumes among other stuff to show her. The Joann fabrics store closed next to my house, so I couldn't go there as often. I didn't see Vera very much. One day I went into the Michaels store by my house, low and behold there was Vera. She didn't work at Joann's anymore but got a job at Michael's. What was the first thing she said to me?  "Hey so what are you making now?" It has been about 7 years since she has been asking me what I am making.

The other funny story is when I was remodeling my kitchen with my dad I would have to go into the hardware store a lot. The guys definately got to know me there. They would ask me how things were going and I would tell them what part we were working on next. One time when I went in one of the workers said, "Hey you cut your hair!" Hmmm you know you go there too much when a guy at the hardware store notices that you cut your hair!
